Governor and Chairman of the Board of the Central Bank
Mr. Jwala Rambarran was appointed to the position of Governor of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago on July 17, 2012. He is currently Chairman of the Deposit Insurance Corporation and a member of the Board of Governors of the Heritage and Stabilisation Fund.
As Governor, Mr. Rambarran provides strategic direction and leadership to the Central Bank in pursuit of its mandate as a widely respected monetary policy authority, macroeconomic manager and guardian of financial stability.
Prior to re-joining the Central Bank, Mr. Rambarran worked in the academic, consulting and financial sectors.
He has also served in the public sector as the Chairman of the Board of Governors of The National Institute of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (NIHERST) and a member of the National Commission for Higher Education.
He holds a BSc in Economics and Mathematics from the University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine Campus and a MSc (Honours) Degree in Financial Economics from the University of London. Mr. Rambarran is also a Graduate of Executive Economic and Financial Training Programmes from Harvard Kennedy School of Government, the IMF Institute and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Mr. Rambarran was recognized by the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, as one of the 50 Distinguished Alumnus in celebration of the Campus’ 50th anniversary celebrations.
