This paper explores the use of Internet user searches from the freely available statistical tool “Google Trends” to estimate and predict Trinidad and Tobago’s unemployment rate. The main research question was: Does a model for estimating Trinidad and Tobago’s quarterly unemployment rate using Google search volumes significantly improve the baseline forecasting model?
